WELCOME TO MY DAYDREAM
by John R. Smith
Welcome
To My Daydream
Let me take you
Far away
in the daytime
Far away
Welcome
to my garden
Really want to show you
On the inside
Glistening let me take you
Far away
Welcome
to my daydream
Maybe I could show you
All the places
I have found
I will show you
Only you
Somewhere
There’s a garden
Behind a waterfall
In the evening
If you’re listening
There are places
Made of sound
Welcome………...….
Welcome to my daydream
Let me take you
Far away
In the daytime
Somewhere
There’s a garden
Anytime I want to
I can go there
I will take you
in my daydream
Far away
Ahhhh…….

Spy vs. Spy

Spy vs. Spy
by John Smith
I stare into
A swirling maze
One world inside
A fragile shell
Clandestine lives
Are self contained
To hide the spy
The spy within
Beyond the reach of mortal things
To find the spy
The spy within
Abandoned mines
And broken chains
I find the lamp
And light the flame
When all is gone the self remains
To try to find
The spy within
Beyond the reach of mortal things
To find the spy
The spy within
Beyond the world the self remains
To find the spy
The spy within
The spy within
When all is gone the self remains
Behold the spy
The spy within

RIGHT BEFORE MY EYES
by John R. Smith
The miracle of life
Seasons change from day to day
All the world
Is a stage
It’s a sign
That you are changin’
You are changin’
All the worlds a play
And your hand that writes the page
What a world
I can see in your eye
You are changin’
Right before my eyes
Why’d you have to go
How I wish that you could stay
Here with me in a world
that we made
But you are changin’
You are changin’
A moment in a dream
In between the cracks of time
But I know for today
You are mine
You are changin’
Right before my eyes
Right before my eyes
Right before my eyes
Right before my eyes

Pandora's Box

PANDORA’S BOX
By John Smith
I’ve been accused of being sad
Is it because
I dress in black
one day I found a box
an ordinary box
I looked inside
I was transformed forever
Pandora’s Box
Oh when I look into my past
I see a thread
A thousand years
Dating back
To Mary Queen of Scots
Or Anne Boleyn
Oh what a fool I’ve been
Lost my head
What will I do without a head
Just like Marie Antoinette
I’m rearranged
Above the neck
I went out to the park
Twas merely following my muse
Communing with the ducks
I looked inside a hole and there I found
a brand new world
One within
My inner self
Pandora’s Box
You never know what I will do
When I get up everyday
And go outside
Outside to play
Among the objects of desire
Joy and pain
What would I do without you
To keep me sane
Ahhhhhhhh…………
But when I look inside the box
I see myself
reflected in the mirror of the world
Oh Madre Dios
What will I do
Now that I’ve gone and opened up
Pandora’s Box
And now
I cannot get it closed
I’ve really gone and done it now

Color of Everything

COLOR of EVERYTHING
Love is black and white
Love is red all over
I take my brush and paint a portrait of you
A portrait of my desire
All the colors start to run together
Till they become the color of everything
Love is burnt sienna
Aquamarine azure and alizarin crimson
I pick up my brush to paint a portrait of you
A portrait of my invention
All the colors start to run together
Till they become the color of everything
All the colors start to run together
Till they become the color of everything
The color of everything…
All the colors start to run together
Till they become the color of everything
Till they become the color of everything
Color of everything
Color of everything
Color of everything
Horns back in through ending

Looking Glass

LOOKING GLASS
by John R. Smith
There’s a man in a stocking cap
Squeeking notes from a coronet
He may never get good
Never stand on a stage
Never sound like anyone but a man
In a stocking cap
There’s a man with a shopping cart
Full of poetry
In spiral bound notebooks
Pages run from the rain
Running from the man
The man with the shopping cart
There’s a girl in a mini skirt falling down
It’s her time to fall down
It’s her time to fall down
It’s her time
To run
From the woman in the Looking Glass
The woman in the Looking Glass
If only she could go through the Looking Glass
If only she could go through the Looking Glass
There’s a woman living in a car
With all her dogs and cats
She’s happy in a way
All she wants is to be left alone
To be left alone
With the woman living in a car
If only she could go
If only she could go
If only she could go
Through the Looking Glass

MILES BENEATH THE SEA
by John R. Smith
Miles
Beneath The Sea
A coral grows
On the starboard light
Miles beneath The Sea
A chandelier
Above the promenade
Where no one ever goes
Miles
Beneath The Sea
A coral grows
On the starboard light
Miles
Beneath The Sea
A chandelier
A wing, a fan, a flower opening
Miles
Beneath The Sea
A gentle shape
Leaves a shadow on the sand
A sailing ship
from long ago
From a distant place
Where no one ever goes
A desert land
of shifting sand
And here
and there
a monument
to the work of man
And what his hands have made
And what his hands have made
Beneath the sea
A coral grows
A hundred fathoms down
Where light will never go
And what his hands have made
Beneath the Sea
Miles beneath the Sea
Miles beneath the Sea
Miles beneath the Sea

BEFORE THE FALL
by John R. Smith
My Muse it strayed
Across the desert land
I knew the way
Though I never had been there
The ancient stones they read
About a place
Abandoned long ago I knew the way
Though I never had been there
I had never been there
Before….
The ancient scrolls had turned to dust
The pages crumpled at the touch of my hand
Who knows what words of wisdom
could have saved us all
I knew the song, I knew the words
Though I never
had been there
I had never been there
Before….
Before the Fall
Before the Fall
Though I never had been there
I had never been there
Before
Before the Fall
Before the Fall
Before the Fall
Before the Fall

CHARADE
by Henry Mancini
When we played our charade
We were like children posing
Playing at games
acting out names
guessing the parts we played
oh what a hit we made
we came on next to closing
best on the bill
lovers until
love left the masquerade
fate seemed to pull the strings
I turned and you were gone
While from the darkened wings
The music box played on
Sad little serenade
Song of my hearts composing
I hear it still
I always will
Best on the bill charade

SKEETS BENI
by John R. Smith
Skeets Beni had long bangs
They hung down so low
Eye specialist told her
You better cut ‘em or you better not drive
No, ya better not drive
Skeets Beni drove a pink MG
With a continental wheel
Made a living as a car hop
Till the day that she didn’t show up
No she didn’t show up
Did you ever hear about Skeets Beni
Did you ever hear about Skeets Beni
Did you ever hear about Skeets Beni
She liked to drive too fast
Did you ever hear about Skeets Beni
Did you ever hear about Skeets Beni
Hey now, hey now
She liked to drive too fast
Every town in the whole wide world
Has a dead mans curve
Charlie found pieces of the pink MG
But they never found her
No they never found her
Did you ever hear about Skeets Beni
Did you ever hear about Skeets Beni
Did you ever hear about Skeets Beni
She liked to drive too fast
She liked to drive too fast
You know they never found her
Oh no they never found her
You no they never found her
No they never found her
Did you ever hear about Skeets Beni
Did you ever hear about Skeets Beni
Did you ever hear about Skeets Beni
She liked to drive too fast
Did you ever hear about Skeets Beni
Did you ever hear about Skeets Beni
Hey now, hey now
She liked to drive too fast
She liked to drive too fast
She liked to drive too fast

(The Return of) Point of No Return
by John R. Smith and Valerie Day
I was your friend,
And you were mine
You’d been around for a long long time.
I loved you then,
But not like now
Something has changed
And i dont know how.
Well, i’m at the point of no return
I’m at the point of no return
It’s taken me a while to learn
I’m at the point of no return
I’ve never been
In love like this
You turned me around
With just one kiss.
I’ve never seen you
In this way before
Now you got me wantin’ more and more.
Well i’m at the point of no return
I’m at the point of no return
It’s taken me a while to learn
I’m at the point of no return
I’m at the point sing w/horns
It’s taken me a while to learn
I’m at the point
Of no return
No turnin back –
Its much too late
To go back now would be a big mistake.
It’s taken me
A while to learn
I’m at the point of no return.
I’m at the point
I’m at the point
I’m at the point
I’m at the point

SPRING CAN REALLY HANG YOU UP THE MOST
by Landesman/Wolf
Spring this year has got me feeling
Like a horse that never left the post
I lie in my room
Staring up at the ceiling
Spring can really hang you up the most
Morning's kiss wakes trees and flowers
And to them I'd like to drink a toast
I walk in the park
Just to kill the lonely hours
Spring can really hang you up the most
All afternoon those birds twitter-twit
I know the tune
This is love, this is it
Heard it before
And I know the score
And I've decided that spring is a bore
Love seems sure around the new year
Now it's April
Love is just a ghost
Spring arrived on time
Only what became of you, dear
Spring can really hang you up the most
All afternoon those birds twitter-twit
I know the tune
This is love, this is it
Heard it before
And I know the score
And I've decided that spring is a bore
Doctors once prescribed a tonic
Sulfur and molasses was the dose
Didn’t help a bit
My condition must be chronic
Spring can really hang you up the most
All alone, the party is over
Old man winter was a gracious host
But when you keep praying
For snow to hide the clover
Spring can really hang you up the most.

Driftin'

DRIFTIN’
by John R. Smith
Picked up by the changin’ tide
Drifted from the shore
Soon there was no land in sight
I couldn’t see you anymore
Our love is slippin’ away
Just like the twilight on a rainy day
I’m driftin’ away from you
Driftin…
Driftin away from you, what can I do
I’m driftin’
Driftin away from you
While I was sailing all alone
I found an island in the storm
Where I could sit beside the fire
And find some shelter from the cold
Our love is slippin’ away
Just like the sunlight on a cloudy day
I’m driftin’ away from you
Driftin…
Driftin away from you, what can I do
I’m driftin’
Driftin away from you
Like the sunlight on a cloudy day
Our love is slippin’ away
Like the twilight on a rainy day
Our love is driftin’ away
Tell me baby, what can I do
I’m driftin’ away from you
What can I say, don’t you know that I’m driftin’ way from you
Driftin’…..I’m driftin,
Driftin….i’m driftin away from you
