From John: Some songs arrive fully written. Others take time. 'When I Think Of You' was one of the more labor intensive ones. It was the summer of 1989. I was working on songs for Eat&Run and thought we needed a ballad. We'd just purchased a Yamaha grand piano from a studio that was closing, a gorgeous thing. This song was the first thing I wrote on it. It took about six weeks working for hours every day to make all those chords fit together. Almost drove me crazy. Sometimes working on a song too much will ruin it....but there was something about this one that made me hang on 'til the end. The words were easier. I think those were written in less than an hour, but I might be mistaken. We still have that piano. In the end, I'm not sure if the song made the album or not. All I know is, Valerie played it for me about a year ago.
